Hey guys it’s Travis,
I wanted to give you a little behind the scenes story from the Sad Song music video which will be online today at 4 EST.
This song obviously means a lot to me so I decided a few months ago to write an idea for a music video surrounding the song. After a few weeks of working it out, we decided to use my idea for the video. Now, I’ll tell you what the idea is based on, but keep in mind that the most beautiful thing about music is that it can be translated in so many different ways… so here is my interpretation of the video without giving too much away before you watch it: when the band first started touring, we were gone for about 11 months per year for the first 3 years, it was crazy, but I loved it. With most things in life there are negatives that come with all the positives, one of those being the fact that touring so much ended up keeping us from our families. We have always had the most uplifting support from our family so it was tough leaving them and not seeing them or speaking to them for days, weeks, or sometimes months. My biggest fear in life is that I wouldn’t be there for my family when they needed me the most, and that tears me apart inside. The thing that crossed my mind with just about every phone call that I got from my family was, “did something awful happen to someone I love?” then with that fear set in my head I would answer the phone. In the video, before I answer the phone call, the fear sets in and takes you on a ‘what if’ scenario up until the ending of the video when the phone rings again and on the other end you hear that everything is going to be ok, and that he just let his fear take over his mind for a moment before answering the phone call. This is the base of the story for how I see the music video, but like I said before, each person will see something different, and that is special about music. What I would want everyone to get out of this video, is to cherish every single moment that you have with people you love, not because it may end tomorrow, but because life better when your loved ones are in it. This story hits home to me because my wife, Jenny, acted as the mom, and because we used a girl as our child. Those of you who know me, know that I am the luckiest person in the world because I get to be a dad to most incredibly amazing and beautiful baby girl, Kinsley. It was tough at times separating acting from reality, but I think that’s why the video came out so great. It’s raw and passionate, just like the song, and I hope you all love the video as much as I do and decide to share it to your friends. I speak for everyone in the band when I say that we love you all so much and are ever so grateful for all the love and support that you’ve shown us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, this one goes out to you.
Love,
Trav
