Frontman Nick Diener dan drummer Jonathan Diener dari band rock alternatif The Swellers (2002-2015), sudah memprediksi jika kampung asalnya Flint, Michigan, Amerika Serikat akan mengalami masalah pada pasokan air. Pejabat yang nggak beres mengambil sebagian keputusan, sehingga daerahnya punya potensi yang akan mempengaruhi kesehatan ribuan warga.
Emosi, kebingungan dan keinginan untuk membantu, Jonathan Diener turut menciptakan lagu Not Safe To Drink dengan substream kontributor James Shotwell. Lagu ini didedikasikan untuk krisis air yang terjadi di wilayah Flint.
“Kita semua sudah menulis lagu sejak saat itu untuk proyek-proyek lainnya, tetapi di tengah-tengah perjalanan, Flint mengalami krisis air bersih, saya mencoba hal-hal yang saya tidak lakukan dalam waktu yang lama. Kedengarannya seperti sebuah lagu Swellers. Delapan menit lagu anumerta The Swellers, karena kami tidak peduli bahwa kita tidak sebuah band lagi dan semua telah berpisah.”
“Karena ini terjadi pada kampung halaman kami, itu hanya masuk akal untuk menghidupkan kembali band untuk satu lagu lagi,” Jonathan Diener menjelaskan. “Saya sudah banyak membaca, berbicara dengan teman-teman kita di Flint dan semua itu tertuang kedalam lirik. Ini waktu yang tepat untuk emosional lagi. “
Not Safe To Drink menampilkan musik dari Taking Back Sunday, Anti-Flag, We Came As Romans, Craig Owens, Aaron West Dan The Roaring Twenties, True Friends, Jeff Rosenstock dan banyak lagi yang dirilis 20 Februari. Project ini akan disumbangkan minimal $ 5, dengan 100 persen dari hasil akan dimasukkan pada lembaga amal FlintKids.org.
